Lecture Symposium Report
Our visiting lecturers from Beijing, began their talk, by outlining the problems of removal and demolition of dangerous housing in order to facilitate city redesign, whilst considering the degree of concern, and views of inhabitants, yet also bearing in mind anti-terrorism measures associated with the Olympics. SARS is a concern that must also be borne in mind, particularly with regard to the prompt measures that need to be taken in either eventuality occurring.

From the Tokyo point of view, they spoke about manuals for emergency situations, such as those made evident by the Hanshin Earthquake, and described the example that a number of staff, possibly as many as 240, that should live near the Metropolitan Government Office, in order to get there, on foot within 10 minutes of an emergency. It was also explained that a cooperation system toward the total risk management, from prevention, to a vertical administrative and organization system be established.
